Sustainability and Social Businesses
The SSB RG is dedicated to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation in sustainable business practices and social entrepreneurship, and the capacity to create social value in target groups. It aims to address pressing global challenges related to environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic prosperity through research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and engagement with diverse stakeholders. SSB RG will implement its workforce within the scope of several running and future projects. For example, within the EEE3S[FG1] + project (funded by Erasmus+ KA2; duration: 2023-2026), which aims at creating an European school of social entrepreneurship and design a training mobility program for the development of a social enterprise, several SSB researchers will carry comparative studies regarding the legal forms of the different social entrepreneurship initiatives in Portugal and those existing in other countries to identified good social entrepreneurship practices and deliver a constructive message to policymakers in Europe. Through the ASSET - Teaching Accounting for Sustainability, Social and Environmental Transparency (funded by Erasmus+ KA2; duration: 2023-2026), SSB members will participate in the creation of a collaborative international space among universities to design digital educational packages and intensive study programmes incorporating sustainability into accounting education with the primary objective to produce guidelines for accounting teachers and stimulate their critical roles toward global sustainability.
The future projects will be related to several topics. For instance, within the AI for Finance or Accounting (Erasmus+ KA2 Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education call), alternatives in the learning process will be developed for the development of academic personnel skills through AI and digital tools integration in the financial and accounting study processes, thus facilitating students´ integration into the international work environment.
