Perspectives on nonhuman animals in corporate reporting: findings from the Nordic region

Eija Vinnari, a lecturer at the University of Finland, will moderate the webinar ‘Perspectives on non-human animals in corporate reporting: findings from the Nordic region’ on 27 May at 9.30 am, as part of the ISCAP/IPP accounting webinar series.

The event is aimed at the academic community and the general public, and involves various bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at ISCAP, including the Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Management, in Consultancy and Translation, in Business Creativity and Innovation, and in Business Communication, as well as the Master’s degrees in Accounting and Finance, in Corporate Finance, in Auditing, and in Management and the Legal Framework of the Social Economy.

About the guests:

Eija Vinnari is Full Professor of Public Financial Management at Tampere University, Finland. Eija’s academic work covers a range of fields including accounting, public management, political philosophy, and environmental/animal ethics. A cross-cutting theme of her research in critical accounting is non-human animals as a marginalized constituency. She has examined for instance the moral mechanism and transformative potential of counter accounts produced by animal rights activists as well as ways in which animal rights considerations could be included into the definition of sustainability. Eija is also keen to explore the potential of agonistic democracy and critical dialogic accounting for facilitating a transition towards a more sustainable world characterized by inter-species justice. In broader terms, Eija is fascinated by ontological, epistemological and methodological questions, actor-network theory and discourse analytical approaches. A cross-cutting theme in much of her recent research is non-human animals as a marginalized constituency. She has published for instance on counter-accounts produced by animal rights activists and the inclusion of animals in the definition of sustainability. Her other publications cover a broad range of issues including critical dialogic accounting and accountability, and the roles of theories in accounting research. Her work has been published in Accounting, Organizations and Society; Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal; Critical Perspectives on Accounting; Financial Accountability and Management; Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics and several edited collections. Eija is Associate Editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting and she also serves on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal; Accounting Forum; Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management; and Scandinavian Journal of Management.
