About the Event
Suelen Frainer, a researcher at CEOS.PP, will lead the workshop ‘Textual analysis with IRAMUTEQ’ on 23 November, exploring the various ways in which the IRAMUTEQ software can be used in the analysis of textual data. The session will last 1 hour 30 minutes and is aimed at anyone interested in qualitative analysis methods.
The programme includes an introduction to IRAMUTEQ and its relationship with the R programming language, with examples of how these tools can be applied to social science research. The stages involved in preparing a text corpus will also be covered, from organising and cleaning the data to encoding in UTF-8 and importing the files.
In the practical session, participants will explore features such as basic text statistics, the creation of word clouds and similarity analysis, which enables the identification of relationships between terms. The training also includes an introduction to Hierarchical Descending Classification (HDC), a method that organises text segments into classes with characteristic vocabulary, and to interpreting the results produced by the software.
The workshop has 20 to 30 places available and offers students and other interested parties an opportunity to learn about text analysis tools and explore their application in research projects.
