CEOS.PP researcher featured on Porto Canal with an analysis of the 2027 State Budget
António Manuel Cunha, Assistant Professor at FCEP and a researcher at CEOS.PP, appeared on Porto Canal’s ‘Ordem do Dia’ programme, where he analysed the key budgetary measures and the economic and social challenges for 2027.

During the interview, he highlighted the housing crisis, the rise in public spending, the gradual reduction in corporation tax and the introduction of the single social benefit. On the subject of housing, he considered that resolving the problem requires, above all, ‘capital and time’, emphasising the need for investment in construction and the regional inequalities in the distribution of available housing.
In his analysis of the Budget, the researcher predicted that it would be approved without major difficulties, but warned of rising public expenditure, driven by increased social benefits and pay rises for civil servants. By allowing income from work to be combined with social benefits, within certain limits, this could encourage entry into the formal labour market and contribute to an increase in Social Security revenue.
Finally, António Manuel Cunha highlighted the influence of external factors – such as trends in interest rates, financial markets and oil prices – on the realisation of economic forecasts.
The contribution of the CEOS.PP researcher adds to the public debate on economic policies and the challenges facing Portuguese society.
