Informality, mobility and migration under discussion at the INSEAI project workshop
Researchers from various scientific fields will meet on 30 November and 1 December at the Faculty of Business Sciences (FCEP) to discuss the links between informality, mobility and migration. The event is the fourth workshop of the INSEAI project and will take place in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation.
“Informality, mobility and migration” is the theme for this edition, which explores the relationship between three phenomena that cut across labour markets, organisations and career paths. Worker mobility, migration processes and the various forms of informal work raise issues ranging from regulation and employment conditions to access to opportunities and inclusion.
Topics for discussion will include labour and cross-border mobility, the relationship between migration and informal work, the dynamics of informality in maritime, coastal and blue economy activities, as well as the gender dimensions of these phenomena. The transformations brought about by digital technologies and information systems will also be addressed, alongside changes in working practices and the responses of organisations and institutions. The workshop thus brings together contributions from the fields of economics, human resources management, psychology, sociology, law, information systems and management, seeking to foster a dialogue between different approaches to analysing informality, mobility and migration.
Among the guests is Marlene Silva, a lecturer specialising in Human Resource Management and Development and Head of Human Resources at the Eurotux Group. A researcher at CEOS.PP, she has been conducting research in the field of human resource management and will bring to the event the perspective of organisations and people management.
The programme also includes a presentation by Fernando González Laxe, Professor Emeritus of Applied Economics at the University of A Coruña and former President of the Xunta de Galicia. A specialist in maritime, port and fisheries economics, he will address the relationships between economic, legal and political frameworks and the conditions that influence informality and governance in maritime and coastal activities.
The workshop is coordinated by researchers from CEOS.PP and lecturers from FCEP: Anabela Mesquita and Sandrina Francisca Teixeira; Luis Ortiz, from the National University of Asunción; Pablo Granowsky, from the UOCRA Foundation; Santos Miguel Ruesga Benito and Julimar Da Silva Bichara, from the Autonomous University of Madrid; and Isabel Novo-Corti, from the University of A Coruña. The event is being organised by Isabel Vieira, Sara Teixeira, Maria João Castro and Ana Patrícia Lima, who are also researchers at CEOS.PP.

The workshop is open to papers on informality, mobility and migration. Those interested may submit their abstracts by 10 October, following the guidelines provided by the organisers.
