Ian Thomson led the Research Seminars: Combatting Global Malnutrition Through Cold Chain Infrastructure exploring the contribution of transformative accounting and finance (1 October) and Developing Accounting for Sustainable Development Through a Consideration of Interconnectivity: Methodological Challenges' (3 October).
The seminars explored issues of research methodologies in the field of sustainability accounting and the impact that the field of accounting and finance can have on identifying problems and creating measures to alleviate the problem of malnutrition in the world.
Professor Ian Thomson is a member of the Board of the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) and is a specialist in Social and Environmental Accounting, particularly in the field of Sustainability Accounting. His vast contribution to society includes (i) his collaboration with the Scottish Parliament, as an independent expert, on matters relating to climate change in the field of finance and social and environmental accounting; (ii) his collaboration with professional accountancy bodies, as an expert on sustainability accounting issues; (iii) working as an expert consultant for the United Nations Food Programme, advising large companies on their sustainability strategy and reporting; and as an expert reviewer of the reports on climate change published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The events were shared with the academic and scientific community, as well as the general public, with the participation of teachers and researchers from various institutions, namely ISCAP-IPP, FEP-UP, ISCTE-IUL, ISEG-UL and ESCE-IPS, thus promoting networking and collaboration in the field of research and knowledge transfer.
During his time at ISCAP-IPP, Ian Thomson also took part in sessions on Research Methodologies (Master's in Accounting and Finance) and Accounting and Financial Analysis (Erasmus Programme).
Finally, the Routledge Handbook of Environmental Accounting, edited by Ian Thomson, Jan Bebbington, Carlos Larrinaga and Brendan O'Dwer, is now available to ISCAP-IPP students and teachers, as part of the strategy of continually updating the ISCAP-IPP Library's resources.
Ian Thomson's visit was the result of an initiative developed by lecturers Cláudia Teixeira, José Vale and Luís Gomes, from ISCAP-IPP, and Maria João Major, Ana Isabel Lopes and Helena Isidro, from ISCTE-IUL. The event is part of the activities carried out by CEOS.PP's Sustainability and Social Business research group and is part of ISCAP-IPP's internationalisation mission. It was also part of the BRU-ISCTE Research Seminars.
