In 2015, the regions of Galicia and Northern Portugal developed the Galicia-Northern Portugal Cross-Border Smart Specialisation Strategy, called RIS3T, the first cross-border RIS3 at European level and considered by the European Commission to be a good practice in transnational cooperation on smart specialisation.
The Joint Investment Plan (PIC) of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion 2021-2027, approved by the two regions, has defined as one of the investment priorities the updating of the Euroregion's cross-border RIS3 (RIS3T), based on the revision of the regional RIS3, with the aim of mobilising new initiatives and joint projects in the Euroregion and attracting funds from specific funding sources, such as Horizon Europe.
The Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR NORTE IP), the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Galicia - Northern Portugal (GNP, EGTC), are developing the study to update RIS3T for the 2021-2027 period, as part of the project "GOBERNANZA_GNP - Cross-border challenges in the Galicia - Northern Portugal Euroregion", approved by the Interreg Spain - Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2021-2027.
On 3 July 2023, CEOS.PP was present at the facilities of the "Escola Superior Agrária - IPVC" in Ponte de Lima for the co-creation event to define the priority areas and actions for cross-border cooperation in the field of smart specialisation.
